You feel everything. A shift in someone’s mood before they’ve said a word. The tension in a room that no one else seems to notice. Grief that isn’t yours, sitting in your chest anyway. And somewhere along the way, you started believing this made you too much. Too sensitive. Too easily wrecked by other people’s feelings.
That belief is the starting point of this episode, and it’s worth pausing on, because it’s not really about whether you feel too much. It’s about what happens when you feel that much with no way to filter it.
Here’s the reframe. Your heart chakra, the energy center connected to empathy and connection, has what the episode describes as a web around it. Sometimes that web is loose and open, and energy, information, and emotion move easily in and out. Sometimes it tightens or closes completely, acting as a boundary that protects the clarity of your own energy. Neither state is wrong. The problem shows up when you don’t have access to both, when you’re either stuck wide open and drowning in everyone else’s stuff, or shut down and disconnected from your own intuition to survive it.
Clairempathy is the ability to sense and understand other people’s emotions on a profound level. That’s the gift. But it only works as a gift when you also have the filters to recognize old patterns of codependency and emotional wounds as they come up, so you can feel deeply without absorbing everything as if it were yours to carry.
A practice for opening and closing on purpose
Try this breath practice: as you inhale, you turn your head slightly to the left, actively and consciously receiving. As you exhale, you turn slightly to the right, actively and consciously releasing. This is described as opening the lunar channel on the left and the solar channel on the right, bringing more awareness into the central channel between them.
The point isn’t the mechanics. The point is that receiving and releasing become something you do on purpose, instead of something that just happens to you. Every breath becomes a small rehearsal for the bigger skill, knowing when to stay open to someone and when to close the loop and come back to yourself.
There’s an image in the episode that captures this well: resting in a hammock, suspended in the element of air, feeling the breeze move but staying held and supported the whole time. Sometimes that wind is a radical storm of disruption. Sometimes it’s still enough to hear your own heartbeat. Either way, you’re held. That’s what a healed heart chakra is doing, not blocking the wind, but giving you something steady enough to feel it from.
What is possible now:
If you’ve believed your empathy is the problem, this episode is asking you to look one layer deeper. It’s not that you feel too much. It’s that no one ever taught you the second half of the skill, the part where you also get to close. Codependency, old wounds, the pull to absorb someone else’s emotional weather as your own, none of that means your sensitivity is broken. It means the filter hasn’t been built yet.
That’s learnable. Not by feeling less, but by practicing the difference between receiving and holding onto.
Where in your life right now are you staying open to someone or something past the point where it’s actually serving you? What would it look like to receive fully, and then just as fully, let go?
